Subaru Outback
2014–present (BR/BS/BT) · FB25 2.5L NA / CB18 1.8T (BT) · Lineartronic CVT
The Subaru Outback BR/BS (2014–2020) uses the FB25 2.5L boxer with Lineartronic CVT. The BT (2020+) switches to the CB18 1.8T turbocharged boxer. Outback is positioned as a premium wagon-SUV. FB25 head gasket monitoring at 100,000+ km. CB18 turbo: 0W-20 oil, timing chain, watch for oil consumption.
Subaru Outback Common Problems Malaysia
The Subaru Outback BS and BT generations have a strong reputation in Malaysia, but owners should watch for CVT shudder if Lineartronic fluid is overdue, FB25 rocker cover oil seeps on high-mileage units, and head gasket concerns on older BS models with neglected coolant. The CB18 turbo on BT models is generally robust but requires quality 0W-20 oil and timely service to prevent turbo-related issues. Regular servicing at a Subaru-experienced workshop prevents most of these problems.
💰Subaru Outback Repair Cost Malaysia
Repair costs for the Subaru Outback in Malaysia are moderate compared to European AWD wagons, though Subaru-specific parts like Lineartronic CVT fluid, boxer engine gaskets, and EyeSight camera calibration can be pricier than mainstream Japanese brands. Sourcing genuine Subaru or quality OEM parts from established suppliers keeps costs reasonable. Always get a written estimate before authorising any work.
📅Subaru Outback Service Schedule Malaysia
The Subaru Outback follows a 10,000 km or 6-month interval for engine oil changes, whichever comes first, under Malaysian driving conditions. Major service items include CVT fluid at 40,000 km, spark plugs at 60,000 km (FB25) or 40,000–60,000 km (CB18 turbo), and coolant flush every 2 years. Adhering to Subaru's maintenance schedule protects both the AWD drivetrain and the Lineartronic CVT.
🛢️Subaru Outback Engine Oil Guide Malaysia
The FB25 2.5L boxer in BS Outback models takes 0W-20 or 5W-30 fully synthetic oil, with a capacity of approximately 5.1 litres including the filter. The CB18 1.8T turbo in BT models requires 0W-20 fully synthetic only, with a capacity of approximately 4.8 litres; the turbo demands high-quality oil to protect bearings and prevent sludge. Both engines use a 10,000 km change interval under normal Malaysian conditions.
⚙️Subaru Outback CVT Fluid Service Malaysia
The Subaru Outback uses a Lineartronic CVT, which requires Subaru CVTF HT II fluid — no substitutes. The recommended change interval in Malaysia is every 40,000 km, as heat and stop-go traffic accelerate fluid degradation. Neglecting the CVT fluid is the leading cause of Lineartronic shudder and premature failure in Malaysian Outbacks. Always drain and refill with the correct Subaru-specified fluid at an experienced workshop.
💨Subaru Outback Air Filter Replacement Malaysia
The Subaru Outback air filter should be inspected every 20,000 km and replaced every 40,000 km under normal Malaysian conditions, or sooner if driving in dusty areas like construction zones or unpaved roads. A clogged air filter reduces performance and fuel economy on both the FB25 and CB18 engines. OEM or quality aftermarket paper filters work well; high-flow cotton filters require periodic oiling maintenance.
🌡️Subaru Outback Coolant Service Malaysia
Subaru specifies its own Super Coolant (blue or green label) for the Outback — using a generic coolant can cause corrosion inside the aluminium boxer engine and compromise the water pump. The coolant should be flushed and replaced every 2 years or 40,000 km, whichever comes first, especially important in Malaysia's year-round heat. On BS-generation FB25 models, maintaining fresh coolant and the correct concentration is essential to minimise head gasket stress.
🛞Subaru Outback Brake Pad Replacement Malaysia
Brake pads on the Subaru Outback typically last 40,000–60,000 km depending on driving style and urban traffic conditions in Malaysia. The Outback's added weight from its AWD system and higher ride height means braking components work harder than on a standard sedan. Always replace pads in axle pairs, and inspect disc thickness at the same time. Quality OEM-equivalent pads from reputable brands perform reliably in Malaysia's heavy urban traffic.
💿Subaru Outback Brake Disc Service Malaysia
Brake discs on the Subaru Outback should be measured for thickness and inspected for scoring or warping whenever pads are changed. Malaysia's frequent stop-go traffic and hilly routes can cause disc warping, especially if the vehicle has seen aggressive braking. If discs are within specification they can be skimmed, but replacement is recommended when near the minimum thickness. The Outback's AWD also means all four corners require even attention.
🔵Subaru Outback Brake Fluid Replacement Malaysia
Subaru recommends DOT 3 brake fluid for the Outback, with a flush interval of every 2 years regardless of mileage. In Malaysia's humid tropical climate, brake fluid absorbs moisture faster, lowering its boiling point and increasing the risk of brake fade. A brake fluid flush is a low-cost service that significantly improves braking safety. Always check the condition and level during each major service.
🔋Subaru Outback Battery Replacement Malaysia
Car batteries in Malaysia typically last 2–3 years due to the heat, and the Subaru Outback is no exception. The BT-generation Outback with EyeSight and multiple electronic systems draws more from the battery at startup. When replacing, ensure the replacement battery matches the original CCA and capacity rating. On newer BT models, it is advisable to use a memory keeper or visit a workshop with a diagnostic tool, as some electronic modules may need resetting after battery disconnection.
⚡Subaru Outback Alternator Service Malaysia
The alternator on the Subaru Outback typically lasts 150,000–200,000 km, but Malaysia's heat and frequent short trips can accelerate wear. Warning signs include a battery warning light, dim headlights at idle, and the battery draining despite being new. On the horizontal boxer engine layout, the alternator position is slightly different from conventional engines — access requires an experienced technician familiar with the Subaru platform. Remanufactured units are a cost-effective alternative to new OEM parts.
❄️Subaru Outback Air Conditioning Service Malaysia
Malaysia's climate makes a fully functioning air conditioning system essential. The Subaru Outback air conditioning should be serviced every 1–2 years, including refrigerant top-up, condenser cleaning, and cabin filter replacement. The Outback's larger cabin means the system works harder, and a dirty condenser or low refrigerant significantly impacts cooling performance. Early diagnosis of leaks saves expensive compressor damage.
🪤Subaru Outback Cabin Air Filter Malaysia
The cabin air filter on the Subaru Outback should be replaced every 15,000–20,000 km or annually, given Malaysia's urban pollution and haze conditions. A blocked cabin filter reduces airflow from the air conditioning system and allows dust, pollen, and fine particles into the cabin. Replacement is straightforward on both BS and BT models, and upgrading to a HEPA-grade cabin filter is a worthwhile option for owners sensitive to air quality.
🔄Subaru Outback Tyre Guide Malaysia
The Subaru Outback BS uses 225/60R17 or 225/55R18 depending on trim, while the BT generation uses 225/60R18. All four tyres must be replaced as a set or in pairs of the same brand and model to protect the Symmetrical AWD system — mismatched tread depths can strain the centre differential. Popular tyre choices for Malaysian Outback owners include Bridgestone Turanza, Yokohama BluEarth, and Michelin Primacy for their balance of comfort and wet grip.
🎯Subaru Outback Wheel Alignment Malaysia
Wheel alignment on the Subaru Outback should be checked every 20,000 km or after hitting a significant pothole, kerb, or rough road. The Outback's Symmetrical AWD system means incorrect alignment causes uneven tyre wear across all four wheels, increasing replacement costs. A full four-wheel alignment is essential — not just front axle — to keep the system working correctly. Malaysia's road conditions make regular alignment checks even more important.
🔥Subaru Outback Spark Plug Replacement Malaysia
The FB25 engine in BS Outback models uses four iridium spark plugs, rated for 60,000 km. The CB18 turbo in BT models also uses four iridium plugs, but the turbo environment benefits from inspection at 40,000–60,000 km, replacing earlier if signs of wear appear. Always use the Subaru-specified NGK or Denso iridium plugs — performance aftermarket plugs are generally not necessary for street use. Replacing plugs on the horizontally opposed boxer requires working from both sides of the engine bay.
⛓️Subaru Outback Timing Chain Guide Malaysia
Both the FB25 and CB18 engines in the Subaru Outback use a timing chain, not a timing belt — there is no scheduled replacement interval for the chain itself. The chain is designed to last the engine's lifetime with regular oil changes. However, using the wrong engine oil grade, extending oil change intervals, or running low on oil can accelerate chain wear and tensioner failure. Rattling sounds at cold start are a warning sign that should be diagnosed promptly.
🧹Subaru Outback Carbon Buildup Cleaning Malaysia
Carbon buildup patterns differ between the two Outback engines. The FB25 uses port injection, so the injectors spray fuel directly onto the intake valves, keeping them relatively clean — throttle body carbon at 60,000–80,000 km is the main concern. The CB18 uses direct injection, where fuel bypasses the intake valves entirely, causing intake valve carbon deposits at 80,000+ km similar to other direct-injection turbocharged engines. Walnut blasting or chemical intake cleaning is the solution for CB18 carbon buildup.
🔩Subaru Outback Engine Mount Replacement Malaysia
Engine and transmission mounts on the Subaru Outback typically last 100,000–150,000 km, but Malaysia's stop-go traffic and road conditions can accelerate rubber degradation. Symptoms of worn mounts include excessive vibration at idle, clunking during acceleration or gear shifts, and noticeable engine movement when revved in neutral. The Outback's boxer engine has a distinctive vibration signature — a workshop familiar with Subaru can better diagnose mount-related issues versus normal boxer NVH.
🏎️Subaru Outback Suspension Service Malaysia
The Subaru Outback uses a MacPherson strut front and double wishbone rear suspension, providing its characteristic raised ride height without a body-lift. Shock absorbers and struts typically need attention at 80,000–100,000 km on Malaysian roads. Signs of worn suspension include excessive body roll, bouncing after bumps, uneven tyre wear, and reduced steering precision. The Outback's AWD and higher centre of gravity make maintaining correct suspension geometry even more critical for handling safety.
💻Subaru Outback Computer Diagnostic Malaysia
The Subaru Outback, especially BT models with EyeSight ADAS, has complex electronic systems that benefit from proper Subaru-compatible diagnostic tools rather than generic OBD scanners. A full system scan can read fault codes from the engine, transmission, ABS/VDC, EyeSight cameras, and AWD transfer unit simultaneously. Workshops using Subaru SSM4 or equivalent professional tools provide significantly more accurate diagnosis than generic code readers, particularly for CVT, AWD, and EyeSight-related faults.
🔔Subaru Outback Service Indicator Reset Malaysia
The Subaru Outback displays a service reminder on the multi-function display when maintenance is due. After completing the required service, the indicator can be reset through the instrument cluster menu or via a diagnostic tool. On BS models, the reset procedure typically involves cycling the ignition and holding specific buttons. On BT models with the digital cluster, resetting is done through the infotainment or MFD menu. A proper workshop will reset the service indicator as part of every scheduled service.
💧Subaru Outback Oil Leak Diagnosis Malaysia
The Subaru Outback's horizontal boxer engine has specific oil leak points that owners should know. On high-mileage FB25 BS models, both left and right rocker cover gaskets are common seep points, as are the front crankshaft seal and rear main seal. The engine's layout means oil can drip downward in different directions compared to conventional vertical engines, making the source less obvious. A pressure leak test and UV dye inspection at a Subaru-experienced workshop gives the most accurate diagnosis.
🕹️Subaru Outback Power Steering Service Malaysia
The Subaru Outback BS and BT generations use Electric Power Steering (EPS), eliminating the need for power steering fluid. EPS is generally maintenance-free, but issues such as heavy steering, pulling to one side, or steering warning lights should be diagnosed with a Subaru-compatible scanner to read EPS module fault codes. Wheel alignment and tyre pressure directly affect how the EPS system feels. If the steering feels off after a bump or wheel change, have the alignment checked before assuming an EPS fault.
⛽Subaru Outback Fuel Economy Tips Malaysia
The Subaru Outback is a practical family wagon and not designed to be the most fuel-efficient vehicle in its class. In Malaysian conditions, the FB25 returns around 10–12L/100km in city traffic and 8–9L/100km on the highway; the CB18 turbo is slightly more economical at lower speeds due to its torque advantage. To maximise economy: maintain correct tyre pressure, keep the CVT fluid fresh, avoid roof racks when not needed, and use gradual acceleration to let the Lineartronic CVT find its most efficient ratio.
📈Subaru Outback Resale Value Malaysia
The Subaru Outback holds its resale value reasonably well in Malaysia compared to other AWD wagons, supported by its unique positioning and loyal Subaru following. Well-maintained BS models with complete service records, original condition, and below-average mileage command the best resale prices. BT models are newer and retain value better. Buyers in the used market specifically look for proof of Lineartronic CVT fluid changes and coolant maintenance, as these are the two biggest cost concerns for subsequent owners.
✅Subaru Outback Used Car Checklist Malaysia
When buying a used Subaru Outback in Malaysia, key inspection points include: checking for CVT shudder by doing a slow-speed test drive, verifying the CVT fluid colour is not dark or burnt-smelling, inspecting both rocker cover gaskets for oil seeps on FB25 models, checking the coolant for milky contamination (head gasket), testing all EyeSight functions, and examining the AWD transfer unit for leaks. Request full service records and confirm coolant and CVT fluid change history before committing to purchase.
📖Subaru Outback Generations Guide Malaysia
Malaysian Subaru Outback buyers should focus on three main generations: BR (pre-2015, older platform, some units with EJ25 or early FB25 — best avoided unless very well documented), BS (2015–2019, FB25 2.5L, updated safety tech, solid value), and BT (2020 onwards, CB18 1.8T turbo, full redesign, EyeSight standard on all variants). The BT generation is the most modern and recommended for buyers wanting the latest technology. BS models offer better value for money with lower entry prices and proven reliability when properly maintained.
⛽Subaru Outback Fuel Pump Replacement Malaysia
The fuel pump on the Subaru Outback is located in the fuel tank and typically lasts well beyond 150,000 km with regular use. Symptoms of a failing fuel pump include hard starting, engine stuttering at high load, and the engine cutting out under acceleration. Using low-quality fuel or consistently running the tank near empty can shorten fuel pump life. On both BS and BT models, fuel pump access requires lowering the rear seat area or accessing under the boot floor — a job best handled by a workshop.
🔧Subaru Outback Fuel Injector Service Malaysia
The FB25 engine uses port fuel injectors, which are less prone to clogging because fuel is sprayed onto the intake valves. The CB18 uses direct injectors, which operate at much higher pressure and can develop deposits over time. For FB25, injector cleaning every 60,000–80,000 km as part of a top-end service is generally sufficient. For CB18, professional ultrasonic injector cleaning at 80,000+ km can restore fuel atomisation and combustion efficiency. Using quality RON95 or RON97 fuel helps keep injectors cleaner.
🌡️Subaru Outback Radiator Service Malaysia
The radiator on the Subaru Outback should be flushed when coolant is changed, inspected for leaks, and kept free of debris especially after highway driving in Malaysia. The boxer engine's cooling system layout is slightly different from conventional engines — coolant flows through both cylinder banks horizontally. A clogged or leaking radiator in Malaysia's heat can quickly lead to overheating, which on FB25 models risks accelerating head gasket stress. Using Subaru's specified coolant and maintaining the recommended flush schedule prevents most radiator-related issues.
🌡️Subaru Outback Thermostat Replacement Malaysia
The thermostat on the Subaru Outback controls when coolant circulates through the radiator. A stuck-open thermostat causes the engine to run cool, reducing efficiency and increasing fuel consumption. A stuck-closed thermostat is more dangerous, causing rapid overheating in Malaysia's climate. Given the boxer engine's sensitivity to overheating, replacing the thermostat as a precautionary measure during a coolant flush is good practice on higher-mileage units. Always replace with a genuine or quality OEM thermostat to ensure correct opening temperature.
⚠️Subaru Outback Head Gasket Malaysia
The FB25 engine in BS Outback models has a less severe head gasket concern than the older EJ25, but it remains something Malaysian owners of high-mileage units should monitor. Neglected coolant maintenance is the primary accelerant of head gasket failure. Warning signs include a sweet coolant smell, white exhaust smoke, coolant level dropping without visible leaks, and milky oil on the dipstick. As a pre-purchase inspection step on any BS Outback, perform a coolant pressure test and check the oil for emulsification — two simple checks that can save a very expensive repair.
🔩Subaru Outback CV Joint Service Malaysia
The Subaru Outback's Symmetrical AWD system uses CV joints on all four drive shafts, meaning there are more CV joints to inspect compared to a two-wheel-drive vehicle. CV joint boots should be checked at every service for cracking or tearing — a torn boot allows grease to escape and contaminants to enter, leading to rapid CV joint wear. Clicking or popping sounds when turning are classic signs of worn front CV joints. In an AWD vehicle, a failed CV joint can affect traction balance across both axles.
🪟Subaru Outback Window Regulator Repair Malaysia
Window regulator failures on the Subaru Outback are not extremely common but do occur on higher-mileage units, typically on the driver or front passenger windows. Symptoms include the window moving slowly, making grinding noises, or becoming stuck mid-travel. Malaysia's heat and humidity can degrade the plastic guides and motor brushes over time. Replacement requires door panel removal, and genuine or quality aftermarket regulators are available at reasonable cost. The regulator and motor are often sold as an assembly.
🔴Subaru Outback Check Engine Light Malaysia
A Check Engine Light (CEL) on the Subaru Outback can indicate anything from a loose fuel cap to a faulty oxygen sensor, catalytic converter issue, or misfire. The Outback's boxer engine and AWD systems have additional sensors compared to simpler vehicles, making a proper diagnostic scan essential rather than guessing. On CB18 BT models, boost pressure sensor and turbo wastegate issues can also trigger the CEL. Never ignore a flashing CEL — this indicates a current misfire that can damage the catalytic converter and should be diagnosed immediately.
🚨Subaru Outback ABS Warning Light Malaysia
An ABS warning light on the Subaru Outback typically points to a faulty wheel speed sensor, wiring issue, or ABS module fault. Given the Outback's Symmetrical AWD and VDC (Vehicle Dynamics Control) system, the ABS, traction control, and AWD systems are closely integrated — an ABS fault can affect all three. Wheel speed sensors on the Outback can be damaged by debris or corrosion, especially on rear wheels. A Subaru-compatible scanner is needed to pinpoint which wheel sensor or circuit is at fault before replacing components.
📋Subaru Outback 100,000 km Service Malaysia
The 100,000 km service on the Subaru Outback is a comprehensive milestone check. Recommended items include spark plug replacement (FB25), coolant flush, CVT fluid change, air and cabin filter replacement, brake fluid flush, inspection of all drive belts, CV joint boot inspection, suspension component check, and a full computer diagnostic scan. On FB25 BS models, this is also a good time to inspect the rocker cover gaskets and coolant system for early signs of degradation. A thorough 100,000 km service extends the Outback's reliable life significantly.
📄Subaru Outback Insurance Cost Malaysia
Insurance premiums for the Subaru Outback in Malaysia are influenced by the market value, year, NCD (No Claim Discount), and the sum insured. The Outback's relatively higher market value compared to mainstream Japanese sedans means comprehensive insurance premiums are correspondingly higher. BT models with EyeSight ADAS may qualify for better rates with some insurers that recognise active safety systems. Compare quotes from multiple insurers using aggregator platforms, and ensure the sum insured reflects the current market value to avoid underinsurance.
💰Subaru Outback Spare Parts Price Malaysia
Genuine Subaru spare parts are available through authorised Subaru dealers in Malaysia, while quality OEM and aftermarket parts are available through independent suppliers. Parts unique to the Subaru platform — such as Lineartronic CVT fluid, boxer engine gaskets, EyeSight components, and AWD transfer clutch packs — tend to cost more than equivalent parts for mass-market Japanese sedans. Building a relationship with a workshop that sources quality Subaru parts at fair prices is the best long-term strategy for Outback owners.
✅Subaru Outback Puspakom Inspection Guide Malaysia
Puspakom inspections for the Subaru Outback follow the standard B2 (transfer of ownership) or B5 (roadworthiness) process. Owners should ensure all lights, indicators, wipers, horn, and safety equipment function correctly before the inspection. The Outback's raised ride height is standard from the factory and should not cause issues. EyeSight cameras and ADAS components are electronic systems and are not part of the standard Puspakom physical inspection. Ensure the tyre tread is above minimum legal depth and that there are no visible fluid leaks.
💧Subaru Outback Rocker Cover Gasket Malaysia
Rocker cover gasket seeps are among the most common minor oil leak issues on the FB25-powered BS Outback in Malaysia. The horizontal boxer layout has two rocker covers — one on each side of the engine — and both rubber gaskets can degrade over time, particularly on units with 80,000 km or more. The leak often appears as an oily residue around the perimeter of the rocker cover or a faint burning oil smell. This is a straightforward repair, but on the boxer the access from the sides of the engine bay requires patience. Replacing both sides at the same time is recommended.
🔧Subaru Outback Throttle Body Cleaning Malaysia
Throttle body carbon buildup on the FB25-powered Outback typically becomes noticeable at 60,000–80,000 km, causing rough idle, hesitation, and occasional stalling in traffic. Cleaning involves removing the intake hose and carefully spraying throttle body cleaner while cycling the throttle — do not spray with the engine off on drive-by-wire systems without following the correct procedure. After cleaning, an idle relearn using a diagnostic tool ensures the engine ECU resets its idle calibration correctly. On the CB18 BT, the electronically controlled throttle and direct injection mean this is less critical but still worth inspecting.
💡Subaru Outback Headlight Upgrade Malaysia
BS Outback models came with halogen projector headlights on base variants, while higher trims had LED or HID units. BT models come with LED headlights standard. For BS owners wanting better night visibility, upgrading to quality LED replacement bulbs within the OEM housing is a practical option. Avoid cheap LED kits — poor colour temperature or incorrect beam pattern creates glare for oncoming drivers and is illegal in Malaysia. On BT models with EyeSight, never retrofit auxiliary lights that could block or interfere with the front camera assembly.
🔄Subaru Outback Tyre Rotation Malaysia
Tyre rotation on the Subaru Outback is particularly important because of the Symmetrical AWD system. Subaru recommends rotating tyres every 10,000–15,000 km to ensure even wear across all four corners. Uneven tyre wear — especially mismatched tread depth between front and rear — stresses the AWD centre differential. The Outback uses the same size tyre on all four corners, making a forward cross or X-pattern rotation straightforward. Always check tyre pressure after rotation and verify alignment if uneven wear is detected.
🌧️Subaru Outback Wiper Blade Replacement Malaysia
Wiper blades on the Subaru Outback degrade faster in Malaysia's tropical UV and heat, typically needing replacement every 6–12 months. The Outback uses frameless beam-style wipers on BS and BT models, which clear water more evenly across the curved windscreen than traditional framed wipers. Ensure the correct size is used for front and rear wipers — incorrect sizing can cause streaking or incomplete coverage. Quality brands available in Malaysia include Bosch, Hella, and Piaa, which withstand the tropical heat better than budget alternatives.
🔍Subaru Outback Oxygen Sensor Replacement Malaysia
The Subaru Outback has upstream (pre-cat) and downstream (post-cat) oxygen sensors on both cylinder banks of the boxer engine — meaning there are typically four O2 sensors in total. A faulty O2 sensor commonly triggers a Check Engine Light and can cause rich or lean running, poor fuel economy, and rough idle. OEM-equivalent Denso or NGK sensors are the recommended choice over generic no-brand sensors. On the boxer, the sensor locations on both sides of the engine require the technician to access from each side, which takes more time than a conventional engine.
🔩Subaru Outback Suspension Arm Malaysia
The Subaru Outback's front lower control arms and rear multi-link suspension arms use rubber bushings that degrade over time, especially under Malaysia's road conditions and heat. Worn bushings cause vague steering, clunking over bumps, and poor wheel alignment retention. The Outback being heavier than a standard sedan places more stress on suspension bushings. Complete arm replacements versus bushing-only press replacements depend on the component condition and mileage — a workshop inspection determines the best approach. Always use quality OEM-equivalent components to maintain the Outback's handling geometry.
🗂️Subaru Outback Workshop Case Studies Malaysia
Four real-world cases from 4M Car Care highlight common Subaru Outback repair scenarios in Malaysia. Case 1: A BS Outback (FB25, 95,000 km) arrived with a complaint of CVT shudder at low speeds during reversing and during slow-speed acceleration. Diagnosis confirmed the Lineartronic CVT fluid was dark and overdue by approximately 55,000 km. A drain-and-refill with Subaru CVTF HT II fully resolved the shudder — a timely reminder that this fluid is often the most overlooked Outback service item. Case 2: A BS Outback FB25 with 110,000 km came in for a general inspection, during which both rocker cover gaskets were found to be seeping oil along the lower edges. The boxer engine's horizontal layout means oil from the gaskets tends to drip inward rather than visibly pooling below the car, which is why owners often don't notice until mileage is high. Both gaskets and associated O-ring spark plug tube seals were replaced in a single session. Case 3: A BT Outback CB18 with 60,000 km was brought in for a throttle body and intake cleaning service. The CB18's direct injection means the intake valves don't get washed by fuel, so carbon deposits on the intake valves were starting to show. An ultrasonic injector clean and intake walnut blasting procedure was carried out, restoring smooth idle and improved throttle response. Case 4: A BS Outback came in with a CEL on — the scan returned an EyeSight camera calibration fault after the owner had replaced the windscreen at a glass shop that did not recalibrate the system. The cameras were recalibrated using a Subaru-compatible tool with a target board at our workshop, and the CEL was cleared successfully.
