Subaru Outback Power Steering Service Malaysia
The Subaru Outback BS and BT generations use Electric Power Steering (EPS), eliminating the need for power steering fluid. EPS is generally maintenance-free, but issues such as heavy steering, pulling to one side, or steering warning lights should be diagnosed with a Subaru-compatible scanner to read EPS module fault codes. Wheel alignment and tyre pressure directly affect how the EPS system feels. If the steering feels off after a bump or wheel change, have the alignment checked before assuming an EPS fault.

Subaru Outback Power Steering
- Outback EPS: all current Outback BN/BS use electric power steering; heavier Outback body requires more EPS assist at low speed; EPS calibrated for wagon weight — noticeably different assist character from Forester
- Outback EPS and load: loading Outback with passengers and luggage changes steering geometry and weight — EPS automatically adjusts; no driver action needed; if steering feels different when loaded vs empty, this is normal EPS behaviour
- Outback lane keep: EyeSight lane keep assist applies steering torque; on Outback this can feel intrusive on narrow Malaysian roads; lane keep can be turned off from driver settings if driver preference — this does not affect base EPS
- Outback hydraulic BL/BP: BL and BP Outback (2003–2009) use hydraulic power steering; change fluid every 80,000 km; inspect rack for leak at high mileage; power steering hose replacement at 150,000 km
