The Nissan Almera is one of Malaysia's best-selling sedans. The B17 (2012–2019) uses the VG20 1.5L engine with 4-speed AT or 6-speed MT. The N18 (2020+) uses the HR10DDT 1.0T turbocharged engine with CVT. Both generations are known for reliability but require attention to CVT fluid and timing chain maintenance.

B17 VG20: 0W-20 full synthetic, 3.5L capacity. Change every 10,000 km max. N18 HR10DDT (1.0T turbo): 0W-20 fully synthetic, 3.2L. Turbocharged engine — oil quality is more critical than the NA VG20. Never use mineral or 10W-40 in the N18 turbo. Nissan-approved SN/SP grade. Malaysia: change at 10,000 km or 6 months whichever comes first.
⚙️Nissan Almera CVT Fluid Malaysia — NS-3 Guide
CVT fluid is THE most critical maintenance item on both Almera generations. Use Nissan NS-3 CVT fluid ONLY — generic ATF will damage the CVT. Change every 40,000 km. Signs of CVT issues: shudder at low speed, hesitation on acceleration, whining noise. A CVT replacement costs — far more than the fluid change. Never skip this service.
💨Nissan Almera Air Filter Malaysia
Almera air filter: replace every 20,000 km. N18 1.0T turbo: clean air filter is more important than on the NA B17 — a dirty filter reduces turbo efficiency. OEM or Mann C 25 014 equivalent. Malaysia workshop cost. Filter housing is accessible from the top of the engine bay on both generations.
