Mitsubishi Outlander
2015–2022 (GF/GG) · 4J11 2.4L MIVEC / 4B11 2.0L MIVEC · CVT
The Mitsubishi Outlander GF/GG (2015–2022) is a 7-seater SUV in Malaysia using either the 4J11 2.4L or 4B11 2.0L MIVEC engine with CVT. CVT is the most service-critical component — change NS-2 or CVTF-J4 every 40,000 km. 4WD models have rear differential that requires separate service.
Mitsubishi Outlander Common Problems Malaysia
The GF/GG Outlander's most reported issues in Malaysia include CVT shudder from neglected fluid changes, throttle body carbon buildup around 60,000–80,000 km, and rear suspension wear on 7-seater variants used as family haulers. Early attention to these problems prevents costly repairs down the line. The S-AWC AWD system is generally reliable but the rear coupling should be inspected at higher mileage.
💰Mitsubishi Outlander Repair Cost Malaysia
Repair costs for the Outlander in Malaysia vary widely depending on the work needed. Routine maintenance like oil changes and filters is affordable, but CVT repairs or replacement represent one of the most expensive jobs on this model. Using genuine Mitsubishi or quality OEM parts is strongly recommended for drivetrain components. Independent workshops that specialise in Japanese makes typically offer competitive labour rates compared to authorised dealers.
📅Mitsubishi Outlander Service Schedule Malaysia
The Outlander follows a 10,000 km or 6-month service interval in Malaysia's conditions, whichever comes first. Key milestones include spark plug replacement at 60,000 km, CVT fluid change at 40,000 km, and brake fluid renewal every two years. At 100,000 km a comprehensive inspection of suspension joints, engine mounts, and the S-AWC rear coupling is advisable. Sticking to this schedule protects the CVT — the model's most expensive component.
🛢️Mitsubishi Outlander Engine Oil Guide Malaysia
The 4J11 2.4L MIVEC requires approximately 5.1 litres with filter, while the 4B11 2.0L takes around 4.7 litres. Mitsubishi specifies fully synthetic 0W-20 or 5W-30 meeting API SN or SP standard — do not use conventional oil in these MIVEC engines. Change interval is every 10,000 km. In Malaysia's hot and stop-start urban traffic, many owners opt for 5W-30 for slightly better high-temperature film protection.
⚙️Mitsubishi Outlander CVT Fluid Change Malaysia
The Outlander uses a CVT transmission requiring Mitsubishi CVTF J1 or J4 fluid — never substitute regular ATF, as this will destroy the CVT's steel belt and pulley system. The recommended change interval is every 40,000 km. Neglected CVT fluid is the single biggest cause of expensive Outlander transmission failures in Malaysia. Early symptoms of degraded fluid include shuddering under light acceleration and a slight hesitation when pulling away from a stop.
💨Mitsubishi Outlander Air Filter Replacement Malaysia
The Outlander's engine air filter should be inspected every 20,000 km and replaced by 40,000 km under normal Malaysian conditions. In areas with heavy construction dust or haze, earlier replacement is recommended. A clogged air filter reduces fuel economy and can trigger a rough idle on the MIVEC engine. The filter housing is easily accessible under the bonnet — replacement is a straightforward job for most workshops.
🌡️Mitsubishi Outlander Coolant Service Malaysia
Mitsubishi specifies its own Super Long Life Coolant (SLLC) for the Outlander, which is a pink-coloured ethylene glycol coolant. The first change is due at 10 years or 200,000 km, but in Malaysian tropical conditions most workshops recommend checking concentration and condition every two years. Never mix SLLC with green or blue conventional coolant — contamination reduces cooling efficiency and can damage the aluminium components in the MIVEC engine.
🛞Mitsubishi Outlander Brake Pad Replacement Malaysia
Front brake pads on the Outlander typically last 40,000–60,000 km in Malaysian urban driving, while rear pads generally last longer. The 7-seater variant with heavier rear loads may see faster rear pad wear. Signs of worn pads include squealing, a pulsating brake pedal, or reduced stopping power. Always replace pads in axle pairs and inspect the brake disc thickness at the same time. After fitting new pads, bed them in gradually over the first 200 km.
💿Mitsubishi Outlander Brake Disc Service Malaysia
Brake discs on the Outlander should be measured for thickness each time pads are changed — if below the minimum specification, replacement is mandatory. Warped discs, which cause a pulsating pedal feeling, are common on vehicles frequently driven through deep puddles while the brakes are hot. Aftermarket discs from reputable brands are widely available in Malaysia at reasonable cost. Avoid budget discs that are prone to early warping in our hot and wet climate.
🔵Mitsubishi Outlander Brake Fluid Replacement Malaysia
Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which lowers its boiling point and can cause brake fade under hard use. Mitsubishi recommends DOT 3 or DOT 4 fluid for the Outlander, changed every two years regardless of mileage. In Malaysia's humid climate, moisture ingress is faster than in drier countries, making the 2-year interval especially important. The ABS and S-AWC system share the same hydraulic fluid, so contaminated fluid affects more than just basic braking.
🔋Mitsubishi Outlander Battery Replacement Malaysia
Car batteries in Malaysia typically last 2–3 years due to heat stress. The Outlander requires a standard 12V lead-acid battery; check the correct group size (typically 55B24L or 75D23L depending on variant) before purchasing. The S-AWC system and electronic features place a moderate electrical load, so choose a battery with sufficient cold cranking amps. After replacement, some Outlander variants require an idle relearn procedure or throttle position reset — your workshop should perform this.
⚡Mitsubishi Outlander Alternator Service Malaysia
The alternator on the Outlander charges the battery and powers all electrical systems including the S-AWC electronics. Signs of a failing alternator include a battery warning light, dimming headlights at idle, and difficulty starting. Alternator output can be tested at most workshops with a multimeter. Remanufactured alternators are available at lower cost than new OEM units and are generally reliable for this application. Replace the drive belt at the same time if it shows any cracking or glazing.
❄️Mitsubishi Outlander Air Conditioning Service Malaysia
Malaysia's year-round heat makes a fully functioning air conditioning system essential. The Outlander uses R-134a refrigerant; annual servicing including cleaning the evaporator, checking refrigerant level, and inspecting the compressor belt is recommended. The cabin air filter should be changed at the same service to maintain airflow and prevent musty smells. Dual-zone climate control variants have more complex ducting — ensure the workshop is familiar with the system before servicing.
🪤Mitsubishi Outlander Cabin Filter Replacement Malaysia
The cabin air filter on the Outlander cleans the air entering the passenger compartment through the HVAC system. In Malaysia, where road dust, haze, and heavy rain are common, replacing it every 15,000–20,000 km is sensible. A clogged cabin filter reduces airflow through the evaporator, making the aircond work harder and less effectively. Carbon-activated filters are available as an upgrade and help absorb odours in addition to filtering particles.
🔄Mitsubishi Outlander Tyre Guide Malaysia
Most Malaysian-spec Outlander GF/GG units come fitted with 225/55R18 or 225/60R17 tyres depending on trim level. Choose a tyre rated for wet-weather performance given Malaysia's frequent heavy rainfall — look for strong hydroplaning resistance ratings. The S-AWC system functions best when all four tyres are the same brand, model, and size; avoid mixing different tyres on an AWD vehicle. Check tyre pressure monthly, as heat causes pressure to fluctuate more than in temperate climates.
🎯Mitsubishi Outlander Wheel Alignment Malaysia
Wheel alignment should be checked every 20,000 km or whenever a tyre is replaced, or after hitting a significant pothole — a common occurrence on Malaysian roads. Misalignment on the Outlander causes uneven tyre wear and can affect the S-AWC system's ability to distribute torque optimally. Four-wheel alignment (tracking all four corners) is recommended for this AWD vehicle. Correct alignment extends tyre life significantly and improves fuel economy.
🔥Mitsubishi Outlander Spark Plug Replacement Malaysia
Both the 4J11 2.4L and 4B11 2.0L are four-cylinder engines requiring four iridium spark plugs. The replacement interval is every 60,000 km. Iridium plugs maintain a fine electrode tip that promotes clean ignition in the MIVEC variable valve timing engine. Overdue spark plugs cause rough idle, hesitation under acceleration, and increased fuel consumption. Always use the correct heat range plugs specified for the Outlander — do not substitute cheaper copper plugs.
⛓️Mitsubishi Outlander Timing Chain Guide Malaysia
Both the 4J11 and 4B11 engines in the Outlander use a timing chain rather than a rubber belt — there is no scheduled replacement interval for the chain itself. The chain is designed to last the life of the engine with proper maintenance. However, a stretched or rattling timing chain is a warning sign of oil starvation, often caused by infrequent oil changes or running low on oil. Clean, fresh oil at the correct interval is the only maintenance the timing chain needs.
🧹Mitsubishi Outlander Carbon Buildup Service Malaysia
The 4J11 and 4B11 are port-injection engines, meaning fuel washes the intake valves on each combustion cycle. This makes them significantly less prone to intake valve carbon buildup compared to direct-injection engines. However, throttle body carbon accumulation still occurs from crankcase vapours and is worth cleaning every 60,000–80,000 km. Symptoms include a rough idle, slight hesitation on takeoff, and a drop in fuel economy. Throttle body cleaning is a quick and inexpensive service.
🔩Mitsubishi Outlander Engine Mount Replacement Malaysia
Engine mounts on the Outlander cushion vibration from the engine to the chassis. They typically last 80,000–120,000 km, but Malaysia's stop-start urban traffic accelerates wear. Worn mounts cause noticeable vibration at idle, a clunking sound when engaging drive or reverse, and increased cabin noise. The Outlander has both rubber and hydraulic mounts — the hydraulic units (usually the front mount) are more expensive to replace but provide better NVH isolation when new.
🏎️Mitsubishi Outlander Suspension Service Malaysia
The Outlander uses MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link rear suspension setup. Shock absorbers and struts typically need attention at 80,000–100,000 km on Malaysian roads with their mix of highway and potholes. The 7-seater variant experiences heavier rear loading, which accelerates wear on rear suspension bushings and shock absorbers used as a family hauler. Inspect lower arm bushings, ball joints, and stabiliser bar links at each major service — these are common wear items on higher-mileage units.
💻Mitsubishi Outlander Computer Diagnostic Malaysia
Full diagnostic on the Outlander requires Mitsubishi's MUT-III (Multi-Use Tester III) or a compatible professional scan tool. Generic OBD-II readers can retrieve basic engine fault codes but will miss S-AWC, ABS, EPS, and body control module faults. When the Outlander shows any warning light, a proper multi-system scan is essential before guessing at parts replacements. Choose a workshop equipped with MUT-III or a professional multi-brand tool with full Mitsubishi coverage.
🔔Mitsubishi Outlander Service Indicator Reset Malaysia
The Outlander GF/GG generation displays a service reminder on the instrument cluster when the oil change interval is due. After completing an oil change, the indicator must be manually reset — it does not reset itself. The reset procedure can usually be performed via the steering column buttons or the multi-information display menu without any special tools. Consult the owner's manual for the exact button sequence for your trim level. Failure to reset may cause the next service interval to be miscounted.
💧Mitsubishi Outlander Oil Leak Diagnosis Malaysia
Oil leaks on the Outlander most commonly originate from the valve cover gasket, oil drain plug washer, or camshaft seals as the engine ages. The rocker cover gasket (valve cover) is a frequent culprit on higher-mileage units, causing oil to seep onto the exhaust manifold and produce a burning smell. Minor leaks can be identified by checking for oily residue on the underside of the engine. Address leaks promptly — oil dripping onto hot exhaust components is a fire risk in severe cases.
🕹️Mitsubishi Outlander Power Steering Service Malaysia
The Outlander GF/GG uses Electric Power Steering (EPS) — there is no hydraulic fluid reservoir to check or top up. The EPS system is electronically controlled and largely maintenance-free. However, if the steering feels heavy, pulls to one side, or an EPS warning light illuminates, fault codes must be read via MUT-III as the issue is electronic rather than mechanical. Common EPS faults on aging units include torque sensor drift and motor brush wear. Wheel alignment should always be checked alongside EPS complaints.
⛽Mitsubishi Outlander Fuel Economy Tips Malaysia
The 4J11 2.4L Outlander typically returns around 10–12 litres per 100 km in mixed Malaysian driving — AWD variants consume slightly more. To maximise economy, keep tyres inflated to the recommended pressure, change the CVT fluid on schedule, and avoid unnecessary roof loads. The MIVEC engine benefits from smooth throttle inputs — aggressive acceleration followed by hard braking is fuel-wasteful. Ensure the air filter, spark plugs, and fuel injectors are in good condition, as worn consumables noticeably worsen economy.
📈Mitsubishi Outlander Resale Value Malaysia
The 2015–2022 GF/GG Outlander holds moderate resale value in Malaysia. As a mid-size family SUV it competes with the CR-V and X-Trail in the used market. S-AWC AWD variants command a premium over 2WD versions due to perceived capability. A complete service history, especially evidence of regular CVT fluid changes, is the single biggest factor in maintaining resale price. Cars with CVT issues or poor service records sell at a significant discount. The 7-seater configuration appeals to family buyers and broadens the buyer pool.
✅Mitsubishi Outlander Used Car Checklist Malaysia
When buying a used Outlander in Malaysia, prioritise a CVT fluid inspection and transmission test drive — shuddering or hesitation at low speed suggests degraded fluid or early CVT wear. Check for S-AWC warning lights, EPS faults, and ABS codes with a full scan. Inspect the suspension bushings, CV joint boots, and tyre wear patterns. Verify the service history booklet for oil change frequency. Under the bonnet, look for signs of valve cover oil leaks and check the coolant condition. A pre-purchase inspection at a reputable workshop is strongly recommended.
📖Mitsubishi Outlander Generations Guide Malaysia
Malaysia has seen multiple Outlander generations. The second generation (CW) arrived earlier but is now quite old. The third generation GF/GG (2015–2022) is the most common in the current used market, offering improved refinement, S-AWC AWD, and the option of a 7-seater layout. A PHEV version also exists globally but was not officially sold in Malaysia through authorised channels — if you encounter a PHEV unit it has different maintenance requirements entirely. This content focuses on the petrol GF/GG generation.
⛽Mitsubishi Outlander Fuel Pump Service Malaysia
The Outlander uses an in-tank electric fuel pump that is generally reliable but can weaken with age and high mileage. Symptoms of a failing fuel pump include hesitation under hard acceleration, difficulty starting when the tank is nearly empty, and engine surging at highway speeds. Running the fuel tank habitually near empty accelerates pump wear as the petrol itself provides cooling for the pump motor. The fuel filter, which is integrated with the pump assembly on most Outlander units, should be replaced together with the pump.
🔧Mitsubishi Outlander Fuel Injector Service Malaysia
The port-injection MIVEC engines in the Outlander are relatively forgiving of injector deposits compared to direct-injection engines. However, injector performance can degrade over time, particularly on vehicles that use lower-quality petrol or sit unused for extended periods. Symptoms include rough idle, increased fuel consumption, and slight misfires. Injector cleaning can be performed chemically via a fuel system cleaner, or physically via ultrasonic cleaning at a specialist workshop. Full injector replacement is rarely needed unless flow testing confirms a damaged unit.
🌡️Mitsubishi Outlander Radiator Service Malaysia
The Outlander's radiator cools the 4J11 or 4B11 engine in Malaysia's high ambient temperatures. Signs of radiator trouble include the temperature gauge creeping higher than normal, coolant leaks (look for dried coolant stains under the front of the car), or sweet-smelling steam from the engine bay. The radiator fins can also become blocked with bugs and road debris, reducing cooling efficiency — a thorough fin cleaning at each major service helps. Avoid flushing the SLLC coolant with plain water as it dilutes the corrosion inhibitors.
🌡️Mitsubishi Outlander Thermostat Replacement Malaysia
The thermostat regulates engine operating temperature by controlling coolant flow to the radiator. A stuck-open thermostat causes the engine to run too cold, reducing fuel economy and increasing emissions. A stuck-closed thermostat is more dangerous — the engine overheats quickly. In Malaysia's heat, thermostat failure tends to lean towards the stuck-closed scenario during extreme traffic jams. Thermostat replacement is a relatively simple and affordable job and is often done as preventive maintenance when the coolant is being flushed.
⚠️Mitsubishi Outlander Head Gasket Guide Malaysia
Head gasket failure on the Outlander is not common when the cooling system is properly maintained, but overheating events — caused by a blocked radiator, failed thermostat, or low coolant — significantly raise the risk. Warning signs include white smoke from the exhaust, coolant loss without visible external leaks, oil that looks milky or frothy, and the engine overheating repeatedly. A compression and leak-down test can confirm a blown head gasket before committing to expensive repair. Prevention is far cheaper than repair — monitor your temperature gauge and never drive an overheating engine.
🔩Mitsubishi Outlander CV Joint Service Malaysia
The Outlander's front CV joints transfer engine torque to the front wheels through the suspension range of motion. CV joint boots crack and split over time, allowing grease to escape and water and dirt to enter — this leads to rapid joint wear. Inspect the CV boots at each service; a split boot caught early means only a reboot is needed rather than full joint replacement. On S-AWC AWD variants, the rear driveshaft and rear coupling should also be inspected at high mileage for wear or leaks.
🪟Mitsubishi Outlander Window Regulator Repair Malaysia
Power window regulator failures are a known annoyance on the GF/GG Outlander, with the front windows being most commonly affected. Symptoms include the window moving slowly, stopping midway, making a grinding or clicking noise, or failing to respond. The regulator mechanism uses a cable-and-pulley system that can fray over time. In Malaysia's heat, the window switch contacts can also oxidise and cause intermittent operation. Regulator assembly replacements are available in both OEM and aftermarket options.
🔴Mitsubishi Outlander Check Engine Light Malaysia
A check engine light on the Outlander can indicate anything from a loose fuel cap to a catalytic converter issue or an oxygen sensor fault. Never ignore it — use an OBD-II scanner to read the stored fault code before deciding on action. Common causes in Malaysia include the P0420 catalytic converter efficiency code (often triggered by a failing O2 sensor), evaporative emission faults from fuel cap issues, and MIVEC system faults at higher mileage. A steady light is less urgent than a flashing one — a flashing check engine light indicates an active misfire and requires immediate attention.
🚨Mitsubishi Outlander ABS Warning Light Malaysia
When the ABS warning light illuminates on the Outlander, the anti-lock braking and stability systems are disabled — normal braking still works but you lose ABS protection. The most common causes are a faulty wheel speed sensor (especially after driving through floods, which are common in Malaysia) or a dirty sensor that needs cleaning. The S-AWC system relies on the same wheel speed sensors, so an ABS fault may also trigger S-AWC or traction control warnings simultaneously. A scan tool reading is required to identify which sensor or circuit has failed.
📋Mitsubishi Outlander 100,000 km Service Malaysia
The 100,000 km service is a major milestone for the Outlander. Beyond the standard oil and filter change, this service should include: spark plug replacement (if not already done at 60,000 km), CVT fluid change, full inspection of all suspension bushings and ball joints, brake fluid flush, coolant check, CV boot inspection, engine mount assessment, and a full electronic scan for any stored fault codes. For S-AWC variants, the rear differential and AWD coupling fluid should also be checked. This is the best time to address any deferred maintenance before the vehicle enters its high-mileage phase.
📄Mitsubishi Outlander Insurance Cost Malaysia
Insurance premiums for the Outlander in Malaysia are based on the car's market value, engine displacement, and the owner's claims history. The 2.4L 4J11 engine places the Outlander in a higher displacement bracket, which typically means a higher base premium than 2.0L variants. Comprehensive insurance is recommended for Outlander owners given the cost of CVT and S-AWC components. Compare quotes from multiple insurers and consider adding windscreen coverage and special perils (flood) given Malaysia's flash flood risk.
💰Mitsubishi Outlander Spare Parts Price Malaysia
Mitsubishi Outlander spare parts are widely available in Malaysia through both authorised dealers and independent importers. Genuine OEM parts from Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia tend to be priced at a premium but offer the best fitment guarantee. Reputable aftermarket brands such as Denso, NGK, Bosch, and Tokico provide cost-effective alternatives for wear items like filters, spark plugs, and brake components. CVT-related parts and S-AWC electronics should only be sourced from genuine or equivalent-quality suppliers to avoid premature failure.
✅Mitsubishi Outlander Puspakom Inspection Guide Malaysia
The Outlander must pass Puspakom B2 inspection for JPJ road tax renewal and ownership transfer. Common failure points include worn brake pads or discs below minimum thickness, tyres with low tread depth or sidewall damage, suspension components with excessive play, headlights out of alignment, and lighting faults. Warning lights that are illuminated during inspection — including Check Engine, ABS, or S-AWC lights — will cause a failure. Prepare the Outlander by addressing any known warning lights and having your workshop confirm brake and tyre condition before attending Puspakom.
💧Mitsubishi Outlander Rocker Cover Gasket Malaysia
The rocker cover gasket (valve cover gasket) seals the top of the engine and is a common source of oil leaks on higher-mileage Outlanders. The gasket is made of rubber that hardens and shrinks with age and heat cycles. A weeping rocker gasket typically shows up as a thin film of oil around the valve cover perimeter, sometimes burning off on the exhaust manifold with a faint smell. Replacement is a relatively straightforward job — the timing chain and MIVEC components at the top of the engine do not need to be disturbed for this repair.
🔧Mitsubishi Outlander Throttle Body Cleaning Malaysia
Throttle body cleaning is a routine service for the Outlander that addresses carbon deposits from crankcase ventilation vapours coating the throttle plate and bore. Deposits reduce airflow accuracy and cause rough idle, poor cold-start behaviour, and slight hesitation at low throttle. On the Outlander, the recommended cleaning interval is around 60,000–80,000 km. After cleaning, an idle relearn procedure should be performed — on Mitsubishi MIVEC engines this involves letting the engine idle undisturbed for several minutes to recalibrate the throttle position sensor.
💡Mitsubishi Outlander Headlight Upgrade Malaysia
Base-spec Outlander variants in Malaysia came with halogen headlights, while higher trims offered HID or projector setups. Upgrading to LED headlights improves visibility significantly on Malaysia's unlit rural roads and night driving. When upgrading, ensure the replacement LEDs are of a quality brand and properly aimed — poorly installed LEDs dazzle oncoming traffic and can cause road safety issues. For halogen-to-LED conversions, a CANBUS-compatible LED bulb avoids warning light errors in the instrument cluster.
🔄Mitsubishi Outlander Tyre Rotation Guide Malaysia
Tyre rotation every 10,000 km evens out wear across all four tyres and extends overall tyre life on the Outlander. For an AWD vehicle with S-AWC, it is critical that all four tyres remain closely matched in diameter — rotating them ensures even wear progression. Never rotate to a position where one significantly worn tyre is paired with a new tyre on the same axle of an AWD car, as this stresses the AWD system. The recommended rotation pattern is forward-cross (front to rear straight, rear to front crossing sides).
🌧️Mitsubishi Outlander Wiper Blade Replacement Malaysia
Wiper blades on the Outlander should be replaced every 6–12 months in Malaysia, where UV radiation and monsoon rain rapidly degrade the rubber compound. Symptoms of worn wipers include smearing, skipping, squeaking, and streaking on the windscreen. The GF/GG Outlander typically uses flat-type (beam) wiper blades on the front — check the correct sizes for your variant before purchasing. Rear wiper replacement is also recommended at the same interval. Apply a water-repellent windscreen treatment after fitting new blades to maximise visibility in heavy rain.
🔍Mitsubishi Outlander Oxygen Sensor Service Malaysia
The Outlander's 4J11 and 4B11 engines have upstream (pre-cat) and downstream (post-cat) oxygen sensors for fuel trim and catalyst monitoring. A failing O2 sensor causes the ECU to run a less precise air-fuel ratio, increasing fuel consumption and emissions. It is often the root cause of a P0420 catalytic converter fault code. O2 sensor lifespan is typically 80,000–100,000 km. Genuine or quality branded sensors (NGK, Denso) are recommended — cheap universal sensors can cause calibration errors with the MIVEC fuel management system.
🔩Mitsubishi Outlander Suspension Arm Service Malaysia
The Outlander's front lower control arms and rear multi-link arms contain rubber bushings and ball joints that wear with time and mileage. On Malaysian roads with their frequent speed bumps and potholes, bushing degradation is accelerated. Symptoms of worn suspension arms include clunking over bumps, vague steering response, and pulling to one side. Replacing just the bushings (where separable) is more economical than replacing the entire arm assembly. After any suspension arm work, a four-wheel alignment is mandatory to restore the correct geometry.
🗂️Mitsubishi Outlander Workshop Case Studies Malaysia
Case 1 — CVT Shudder from Neglected Fluid: A 2017 Outlander 2.4L came into 4M Car Care with a complaint of vibration and shudder during gentle acceleration from a standstill. The owner had never changed the CVT fluid at over 70,000 km. Inspection confirmed the CVTF J1 fluid was dark, oxidised, and had lost its proper viscosity. After a full CVT fluid flush and refill with fresh Mitsubishi CVTF J4, the shudder resolved within a short break-in period. The owner was advised to return for another CVT fluid change at 40,000 km intervals going forward to prevent belt and pulley wear progression. Case 2 — Rough Idle and High Fuel Consumption from Overdue Spark Plugs: A 2016 Outlander 2.0L arrived at 4M Car Care with a rough idle, poor fuel economy, and an occasional slight stumble at low rpm. The vehicle had covered 82,000 km with no spark plug service recorded. The original iridium plugs showed significant electrode wear and deposit fouling. Four new NGK iridium plugs were fitted to the 4B11 engine, followed by a throttle body clean to address secondary carbon deposits. Fuel economy and idle quality immediately improved. Case 3 — Rear Suspension Wear on a 7-Seater Family SUV: A 2018 Outlander 7-seater used daily as a school run and family vehicle presented at 4M Car Care with a knocking noise over bumps and vague rear end feel. At approximately 95,000 km, the rear multi-link suspension bushings had softened and cracked from consistent heavy loading with a full passenger complement. Rear lower arm bushings and stabiliser links were renewed, and a full four-wheel alignment was performed. The owner noted the handling improvement was dramatic, with steering precision restored. Case 4 — S-AWC Warning Light After Flash Flood: Following a severe flash flood common in Kuala Lumpur, a 2019 Outlander AWD arrived with the S-AWC and ABS warning lights illuminated simultaneously. A multi-system scan via MUT-III identified a right rear wheel speed sensor fault code. The sensor had ingested water and silt during the flood. The sensor was cleaned and inspected — fortunately, it had not failed permanently and was re-calibrated. The owner was advised to have the sensor replaced proactively on the next service given flood exposure risk.
