Mitsubishi Outlander Timing Chain Guide Malaysia
Both the 4J11 and 4B11 engines in the Outlander use a timing chain rather than a rubber belt — there is no scheduled replacement interval for the chain itself. The chain is designed to last the life of the engine with proper maintenance. However, a stretched or rattling timing chain is a warning sign of oil starvation, often caused by infrequent oil changes or running low on oil. Clean, fresh oil at the correct interval is the only maintenance the timing chain needs.

Outlander 4B12 Timing Chain
The Outlander 4B12 and PHEV petrol engine use timing chains. Reliable with correct 0W-20 or 5W-30 oil at 10,000 km intervals. PHEV owners note: the petrol engine runs infrequently in electric-dominant driving — this can cause oil degradation due to moisture and fuel dilution even at low mileage. Change oil every 12 months regardless of mileage if driving is mostly EV.
