Subaru Outback Carbon Buildup Cleaning Malaysia
Carbon buildup patterns differ between the two Outback engines. The FB25 uses port injection, so the injectors spray fuel directly onto the intake valves, keeping them relatively clean — throttle body carbon at 60,000–80,000 km is the main concern. The CB18 uses direct injection, where fuel bypasses the intake valves entirely, causing intake valve carbon deposits at 80,000+ km similar to other direct-injection turbocharged engines. Walnut blasting or chemical intake cleaning is the solution for CB18 carbon buildup.

Subaru Outback Carbon Buildup
- Outback FB25 port injection: same as Forester — no DI carbon buildup concern; FB25 intake valves stay clean; throttle body cleaning every 60,000 km is sufficient
- Outback EZ36 H6 carbon: EZ36 also uses port injection — 6 intake valves per cylinder bank stay clean; H6 engines do not have the DI carbon buildup issue; no walnut blasting needed on EZ36
- Outback long-idle carbon deposits: Outback used for long highway drives at consistent RPM is less prone to all types of deposits; city Outback with lots of idling may see more throttle body grime — clean at 60,000 km
- Outback carbon myth: do not let workshops charge for DI-specific walnut blasting on FB25 or EZ36 Outback — port injection engines do not need this; carbon blasting is only valid for FA20DIT (WRX, Levorg)
