Honda City EPS Fault — Heavy Steering & Warning Light
Honda City steering suddenly heavy or EPS warning light on? Understand electric power steering faults and how they are fixed.

All modern Honda City models (GM6 onwards) use Electric Power Steering (EPS) — a motor assists the steering rather than a hydraulic pump. EPS is more fuel-efficient and requires no fluid, but it has its own failure modes.
Signs of EPS problems
EPS warning light on the dashboard (steering wheel icon with exclamation mark). Steering suddenly feels heavy — especially at low speed or when parking.
Steering requires more effort than normal in one direction. Intermittent loss of assist — sometimes normal, sometimes heavy.
Common EPS causes and repair
Low battery voltage is the most common trigger for temporary EPS faults — the motor draws significant current. A diagnostic scan will distinguish a battery issue from an actual EPS motor or sensor failure.
If the EPS motor itself fails, it is the most expensive repair — typically RM800–RM1,800 for a reconditioned unit or RM1,500–RM3,000 for new. Get a proper diagnosis first.
