Honda City Cabin Filter — How Often to Replace?

The cheapest, most overlooked Honda City maintenance item. Learn the interval, location, and best options for Malaysian conditions.

Honda City Cabin Filter — How Often to Replace?

The Honda City cabin air filter is the cheapest, most overlooked maintenance item on the car. It filters air entering the cabin — a blocked filter means weaker airflow, bad smells, and a faster-moulding evaporator.

How often to replace?

Generally every 10,000–15,000 km or every 6–12 months. Malaysia's heavy dust and urban pollution mean you should lean toward 10,000 km — don't wait until airflow noticeably drops.

Where is the Honda City cabin filter?

GM6/GM2 (2014–2019): behind the passenger glovebox — open the glovebox and it is visible directly. A swap takes under 5 minutes and can be done at home.

GN2 (2020+): same location behind the passenger glovebox, equally straightforward to replace.

Which filter and what does it cost?

Honda genuine filter: RM40–RM70. OEM-grade aftermarket (Bosch, Sakura, Denso): RM25–RM50, perfectly adequate quality. Activated carbon version (extra odour removal): RM60–RM120. Workshop replacement (including labour): RM60–RM130.

What happens if you don't change it?

Progressively weaker airflow, persistent musty smells, and an evaporator that accumulates mould much faster — leading to a cleaning or replacement job that costs 5–10 times more. Regular filter changes are the cheapest aircon maintenance you can do.
