Honda City Aircond Not Cold — Top 5 Causes

In Malaysia's year-round heat, a Honda City without working aircon is unbearable. Aircon problems have several possible causes — guessing and throwing money at it rarely helps. Here are the most common reasons and what to do about each.

The most commonly guessed cause — but Honda City's refrigerant system is sealed. If it's low, there is a leak somewhere. Topping it up without finding and fixing the leak is a short-term fix that wastes money.

The compressor is the heart of the aircon. Honda City compressors typically last 8–12 years, but Malaysia's heat accelerates wear. A failed compressor produces no cooling at all, or the clutch kicks in and out.

Common symptoms: aircon blows cold then warm intermittently, or a metallic noise when the aircon is on.

The condenser sits in front of the radiator and collects dust and insects easily. Poor heat dissipation means the aircon can't cool properly. A broken cooling fan has the same effect — symptoms are worse in slow traffic and improve at speed.

A mould-clogged evaporator drastically reduces airflow. Replace the filter first (cheap), then consider an evaporator clean if the musty smell or weak airflow persists.
