Honda City is one of Malaysia's best-selling Japanese sedans. Sticking to these key service intervals will keep it running reliably well past 200,000 km. Below is 4M Car Care's recommended schedule for Malaysian driving conditions.
Engine oil change interval
Honda genuine oil (MOCO) lasts 5,000 km. Full-synthetic oils (Mobil 1, Castrol EDGE) can stretch to 7,500–10,000 km.
Malaysia's heat and stop-start city traffic strain the engine harder than normal. Even on full-synthetic, don't exceed 10,000 km — earlier is always safer.
CVT transmission fluid
Honda says CVT fluid is 'lifetime fill' — in practice, changing it every 40,000–60,000 km noticeably reduces judder and extends transmission life.
This is especially important for GM6/GM2 models (2014–2019) — neglected CVT fluid almost always causes gear judder on these generations.
Other service intervals at a glance
Cabin air filter: every 10,000–15,000 km or 6–12 months (Malaysia's dust makes shorter intervals smarter).
Air filter: every 20,000–30,000 km. Brake fluid: every 2 years regardless of mileage. Iridium spark plugs: 60,000–80,000 km. Coolant: every 3 years or 60,000 km. Front brake pads: approx 40,000–60,000 km.
GN2 (2020+) turbo — extra notes
The GN2 runs a 1.5L VTEC Turbo that is more sensitive to oil quality — full-synthetic oil and on-time changes are non-negotiable.
GN2 RS models with the 7DCT dual-clutch gearbox should have DCT fluid changed every 40,000–60,000 km.
