Honda City Engine Oil Guide — Which Oil to Use?
Honda City oil grade, full-synthetic vs semi-synthetic, and the right choice for Malaysia's heat. 5W-30 or 0W-20?

Choosing the right engine oil for your Honda City is one of the simplest things you can do to protect the engine. The wrong grade or type can accelerate wear, raise fuel consumption, and void warranty coverage.
Recommended grade by model
GM6/GM2 (1.5L i-VTEC, 2014–2019): Honda recommends 0W-20 full-synthetic. 5W-30 full-synthetic is also acceptable for Malaysia's heat.
GN2 (1.5L VTEC Turbo, 2020+): 0W-20 full-synthetic is strongly recommended — the turbo demands clean, high-quality oil. Do not use semi-synthetic.
Full-synthetic vs semi-synthetic — is it worth it?
Full-synthetic costs more per litre but lasts longer and protects better in Malaysia's heat. For a Honda City in daily use, the cost difference per year is minimal — full-synthetic is recommended for all generations.
Trusted brands in Malaysia
Mobil 1, Castrol EDGE, Shell Helix Ultra (full-synthetic). Honda MOCO (genuine Honda oil, available at dealers). For semi-synthetic: Castrol Magnatec, Shell Helix HX7. Always check the API SN/SP rating on the label.
