Honda City CVT Fluid Change Guide Malaysia
Why must Honda City CVT fluid be changed? How often? Which fluid? Malaysia cost reference.

Honda's official stance is that CVT fluid is a 'lifetime fill' — but real-world experience in Malaysia tells a different story. Changing it proactively is one of the highest-value maintenance jobs you can do on a Honda City.
Why CVT fluid degrades
The CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) uses fluid to transmit power through a belt-and-pulley system. Over time the fluid breaks down from heat and friction, losing its ability to prevent belt slip — which causes the characteristic judder at low speeds.
Recommended change interval
Every 40,000–60,000 km. In Malaysia's heat and heavy city traffic, lean toward 40,000 km. Use Honda HMMF (Honda Multi-Matic Fluid) or a certified HMMF-compatible CVT fluid — never use generic ATF.
GM6/GM2 (2014–2019): priority cars for CVT fluid changes — this generation is most prone to judder when fluid is neglected.
Cost in Malaysia
CVT fluid change (including labour, Honda HMMF): RM280–RM450. Authorised dealers typically charge RM400–RM600 for the same job. Independent workshops using genuine fluid are the better-value option.
