The Honda City is one of Malaysia's most reliable Japanese sedans — but every car has its weak spots. Knowing these common issues in advance means you can spot them early and fix them cheaply, rather than letting them become expensive repairs.

The most frequent complaint on 2014–2019 City models. Low-speed gear changes feel jerky, and there is a shudder on pull-away. Root cause: CVT fluid that has never been changed. Fix: replace the CVT fluid — recommended every 40,000–60,000 km. Early changes produce a noticeable improvement.

Compressor wear, refrigerant leaks, and mould-clogged evaporators are the most common City aircon issues. Get a system diagnostic first — don't just 'top up the gas' without finding the actual cause.

Throttle body carbon build-up (GN2 turbo): unstable idle, mild vibration. Chassis knocking: worn rubber bushings under the car, producing knocking sounds over bumps. Oil seepage: gasket and seal wear at high mileage.
