Honda City Alternator Failure — Why Does the Battery Keep Dying?
Just replaced your Honda City battery but it's dead again? The alternator may be the real culprit. Signs, diagnosis and repair cost.

The alternator charges the battery while the engine is running. If it fails, the battery slowly drains — and the car eventually dies even with a brand-new battery. A common misdiagnosis: owners replace the battery, the problem returns, and they blame the battery again.
Signs of alternator failure
Battery warning light on the dashboard (battery icon). The car starts fine but dies after 20–30 minutes of driving.
Dim headlights that flicker at idle. Multiple electronics warning lights appearing simultaneously.
Diagnosis and repair cost (Malaysia)
A simple alternator output test using a multimeter takes under 5 minutes — engine running, voltage across the battery should read 13.5–14.5V. Below 13V with the engine running indicates alternator failure.
Reconditioned alternator + labour: RM400–RM700. New OEM alternator: RM600–RM1,000. Some faults are limited to the voltage regulator — a cheaper fix if the main unit is still serviceable.
