5 Series ZF 8HP uses BMW ATF 4 or Esso LT 71141. Change every 60,000 km in Malaysia. Symptoms: rough shifts, hunting between gears, judder from stop. G30 uses ZF 8HP50 or 8HP75 depending on engine variant. Workshop cost RM 500–750.

5 Series ATF — Why It Matters More
The 5 Series is typically driven harder and at higher speeds than the 3 Series — motorway cruising at 120–130 km/h puts more sustained heat into the ZF gearbox. ATF degrades faster at high temperatures. An overheated, degraded ATF causes shift hunting at motorway speeds (gearbox searching between 7th and 8th gear). We see this frequently on F10 535i models that have never had ATF changed.
