Hilux diesel engines run at higher combustion temperatures than petrol engines — making coolant condition more critical. Neglected coolant causes overheating, head gasket failure and corrosion of the aluminium engine head.
Coolant Spec & Change Intervals
- Use: Toyota Super Long Life Coolant (SLLC) — pink OAT type
- First change: 160,000 km or 7 years
- Subsequent: every 80,000 km or 4 years
- Malaysia tip: inspect at 60,000 km — diesel heat degrades OAT faster
- Cost: full flush + SLLC refill = RM 130–200
