Toyota Hilux Diesel Engine Oil Guide (Malaysia)
Hilux 2GD-FTV uses 5W-30 API CI-4+; 1GD-FTV uses 0W-30 DL-1. Using petrol-grade oil in a diesel engine causes DPF contamination and premature wear.
Using the correct diesel engine oil is the single most important maintenance decision for a Hilux owner. The wrong grade accelerates DPF contamination, turbo wear and engine deposits — and Hilux diesel oil specs are stricter than petrol.
2GD-FTV 2.4L Spec (AN120/AN130)
- Viscosity: 5W-30 full synthetic
- Diesel spec: API CI-4+ or ACEA E6/E9 (low-SAPS preferred for DPF)
- Capacity: 7.0L with filter
- Change interval: every 5,000–7,000 km (urban), 10,000 km (highway only)
1GD-FTV 2.8L Spec (AN120/AN130)
- Viscosity: 0W-30 full synthetic
- Diesel spec: Toyota-approved DL-1 (very low SAPS) — critical for DPF health
- Capacity: 7.8L with filter
- Change interval: every 5,000–7,000 km (urban)
