Toyota Hilux AN120 vs AN130 — Which to Buy in Malaysia?
AN120 (2016–2020) vs AN130 (2020–present) — reliability, DPF differences, parts cost, resale value and the key changes between the two Hilux generations.

The used Hilux market in Malaysia has two main generations: AN120 (2016–2020) and AN130 (2020–present, also called the Hilux Revo facelift). Both use the same 2GD-FTV and 1GD-FTV engines but have meaningful differences.
AN120 (2016–2020)
- Engine: 2.4L 2GD-FTV (150hp/400Nm) or 2.8L 1GD-FTV (177hp/450Nm)
- Proven reliability — most known failure modes now documented and solvable
- Lower used price: RM 75,000–105,000 (good condition)
- Parts: widely available, cheaper aftermarket
AN130 (2020–present)
- Engine: same 2GD-FTV / 1GD-FTV but updated ECU calibration — 1GD now 204hp/500Nm
- Updated safety: Toyota Safety Sense (pre-collision, lane departure)
- Revised front fascia and interior (larger display)
- Higher used price: RM 110,000–145,000
Verdict
Buy AN120 if budget is the priority and you want proven, well-documented reliability. Buy AN130 if you want modern safety features, more power from the 1GD and a fresher interior. Both are excellent — the choice is really budget vs features.
