Oil leaks on the Alphard 2AR-FE are not common in early life — but after 100,000 km, certain seals and gaskets reach the end of their service life. Identifying which seal is leaking early prevents expensive secondary damage from oil contamination.
Common Leak Points & Repair Costs
Valve cover gasket: most common leak — oil seeps onto the engine top surface. Repair: RM 150–280 (parts + labour). Crankshaft front oil seal: appears as oil dripping from the front of the engine. Repair: RM 250–450. Oil pan gasket: appears as oil puddle under the car. Repair: RM 200–350. Camshaft oil seal (VVT-i actuator seal): oil seeps around the VVT-i actuator at the front of the head — RM 200–400 to repair. If you notice a slight burning oil smell from the engine bay but no visible puddle under the car, the valve cover gasket is the most likely culprit — oil is dripping onto the exhaust manifold.
