Toyota Alphard CVT / 8AT Fluid Change Guide (Malaysia)
Alphard petrol uses 8AT with ATF WS (7.8L). Hybrid uses e-CVT with Toyota Genuine Transaxle Fluid FV. Both need a change every 60,000 km despite Toyota's 'lifetime' claim.

Alphard's transmission fluid is one of the most commonly neglected maintenance items — owners assume that 'lifetime' ATF means it never needs changing. In Malaysian conditions, that assumption leads to expensive transmission repairs. Here's the full guide.
Petrol Alphard — 8AT with ATF WS
The petrol Alphard uses Toyota's 8-speed automatic transmission (UA80E). This requires Toyota Genuine ATF WS — do not substitute with any other ATF type, including aftermarket 'multi-vehicle' ATF. Capacity: approximately 7.8L for a complete drain-and-fill. Signs of degraded ATF WS: hesitation when pulling away from standstill, hunting between gears at highway cruise, harsh downshifts. Change every 60,000 km. Cost at independent workshop in Bandar Sri Damansara: RM 350–550.
Hybrid Alphard — e-CVT with Transaxle Fluid FV
The hybrid Alphard uses Toyota's e-CVT (Toyota Hybrid System THS-II transaxle). This uses Toyota Genuine Transaxle Fluid FV — a different specification from ATF WS. The e-CVT houses both the motor-generators (MG1, MG2) and the planetary gear set in a single unit filled with this fluid. Change every 60,000 km or 3 years. Any shudder, whine or hesitation from a hybrid Alphard should be diagnosed at a workshop that understands hybrid transaxle systems.
