Toyota Alphard Hybrid Battery — Lifespan & Replacement Cost Malaysia
H30 uses NiMH hybrid battery; H40 switches to Li-ion. Malaysia's heat is the main enemy. How to extend battery life, warning signs, and replacement cost RM 8,000–15,000 explained.

The hybrid battery is the most talked-about — and most feared — maintenance item for Alphard hybrid owners. The reality is less scary than the rumours: a well-maintained Alphard hybrid battery can last 200,000 km or more in Malaysia. Here's what you need to know.
H30 Hybrid — NiMH Battery Under Second-Row Seat
The H30 Alphard hybrid uses a nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery pack positioned under the second-row seat floor. Battery voltage: 244.8V. The pack consists of individual cells in a module — when individual cells degrade, the whole pack loses capacity. The cooling fan for this battery is located under the second-row seat — dust and blocked vents are the main cause of premature battery failure in Malaysia. Clean the cooling vent intake every 20,000 km.
H40 Hybrid — Lithium-Ion Battery
The H40 Alphard hybrid switches to a lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery — smaller, lighter and more power-dense than NiMH, but more sensitive to temperature extremes. The H40's thermal management system is improved over H30. Warning signs of hybrid battery degradation (both variants): sudden drop in EV mode range, fuel consumption increase of 15–20%, more frequent engine-on periods, hybrid system warning light. Battery replacement cost: refurbished NiMH cells for H30 RM 4,500–7,000; full OEM pack RM 8,000–15,000.
