Toyota Alphard Engine Mount — Causes of Vibration at Idle

Engine mounts are the rubber-and-metal bushings that isolate the engine from the chassis. When they wear out, the engine's vibration transmits directly into the cabin — turning the Alphard's smooth ride into an uncomfortable idle shudder at traffic lights.
Diagnosing Engine Mount vs Other Vibration Sources
Engine mount diagnosis: put the car in Drive with brake held, then in Reverse — if vibration changes noticeably between Drive and Reverse, engine mounts are likely worn. A good workshop will physically inspect the mounts with the engine running — visible cracking in the rubber or excessive engine movement under load confirms worn mounts. Do not confuse with: spark plug misfire (vibration at specific RPM with engine misfire code), CVT shudder (only during acceleration from stop), or gearbox vibration (during gear changes). Engine mount replacement cost: RM 250–450 per mount, typically 2–3 mounts on the Alphard.
