Toyota Alphard Brake Fluid — When to Change, Which Grade?
Alphard brake fluid should be replaced every 2 years regardless of mileage. DOT 3 is the standard; DOT 4 gives a higher boiling point. Soft brake pedal is the main warning sign.

Brake fluid maintenance is often overlooked on the Alphard because there's no obvious sign of degradation until it causes a problem. In Malaysia's climate, brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air (hygroscopic) faster than in cooler countries — shortening the service life.
Change Interval & Specification
Toyota specifies brake fluid change every 2 years regardless of mileage. In Malaysian conditions, some workshops recommend every 1.5 years. Specification: DOT 3 minimum (Toyota Genuine Brake Fluid is DOT 3). Some Alphard owners upgrade to DOT 4 for a slightly higher boiling point — acceptable and beneficial if you frequently drive on hilly routes with a full passenger load. Cost: RM 80–150 including fluid and labour. A brake fluid test strip at the workshop can tell you the moisture content — if it shows above 3% water content, change it immediately.
