Signs of Warped Discs & How to Confirm
Main symptom: steering wheel vibrates when braking at highway speeds, but feels normal at low speed. The vibration worsens as speed and braking force increase. Secondary symptom: brake pedal pulsates under foot. Confirmation: measure disc thickness variation with a micrometer — a variation greater than 0.015mm indicates warping. Visual signs include uneven contact patterns (alternating shiny and dull bands on the disc face). Do not attempt to machine (skim) a warped disc — Alphard discs are typically at or near minimum thickness by the time warping occurs; replacement is more cost-effective.
