The A/C compressor is the heart of the Alphard's cooling system — and when it fails, both front and rear zones lose cooling at the same time. Early detection prevents the contamination of the entire system with metal debris from a disintegrating compressor.
Signs of a Failing Compressor
Early signs: A/C gradually becomes less cold over weeks, loud clicking when A/C is switched on, intermittent A/C failure. Late signs: complete failure of both zones, grinding or squealing noise from engine bay, burning smell. If your Alphard's compressor makes grinding noise — switch off A/C immediately and bring to workshop. A grinding compressor that continues to run will shed metal particles into the refrigerant circuit, contaminating the condenser, expansion valve and evaporators — a full system flush adding RM 800–1,200 to the repair bill.
Replacement Cost — Alphard Compressor in Malaysia
New OEM compressor: RM 2,500–4,000. Remanufactured (Denso reman) compressor: RM 1,200–1,800. Labour and system flush: RM 400–600. Total repair including refrigerant recharge: RM 1,800–4,500 depending on compressor choice. Always request that the workshop also replace the receiver-drier and expansion valve when the compressor is changed — these components are contaminated whenever the system is opened.
