Honda Civic Cooling Coil — Clean or Replace?
Musty smell or weak airflow from your Honda Civic FC/FE? Evaporator cleaning vs replacement cost and timeline in Malaysia.

The Honda Civic evaporator (cooling coil) is located inside the dashboard. When it gets mouldy or clogged, you get musty air and weak airflow — a very common complaint after 3–5 years in Malaysia's humid climate.
Clean or replace?
If airflow is weak but not zero, and the mould smell only appeared recently, chemical evaporator cleaning (RM100–RM180) is effective and far cheaper than replacement. If airflow is severely blocked or the coil has physical damage (corrosion holes), replacement is needed.
Evaporator replacement on a Civic requires partial dashboard removal — labour-intensive. Expect RM600–RM1,200 for full replacement including labour.
