Used Prado prices in Malaysia: RM 120,000–220,000+ (TXL150 diesel); RM 80,000–140,000 (TZJ150 petrol). The diesel is the stronger buy for highway/plantation use. The petrol is good value if the timing belt has been replaced.
Pre-Purchase Checklist
- OBD scan (all ECUs): DPF health, EGR status, turbo actuator, ABS, VSC, KDSS (if equipped)
- Full service history: confirm oil change intervals — diesel neglected beyond 7,500 km per change = high risk
- Drivetrain oil check: drain sample from rear diff — if water or metal shavings present, walk away
- Timing belt age (1GR-FE PETROL): if over 100,000 km or 7 years without replacement — negotiate RM 1,500–2,500 off purchase price
- Underbody rust check: Prado used off-road in Sabah/Sarawak may have significant rust on exhaust, brake lines and chassis
