EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve on the 1GD-FTV recirculates exhaust gases to reduce NOx emissions. Carbon buildup in the EGR valve and cooler is the most common diesel maintenance issue — symptoms include rough idle, power loss and black smoke.

- EGR valve cleaning (chemical): RM 150–250 — every 60,000–80,000 km
- EGR valve replacement: RM 400–800 parts + RM 150–250 labour if cleaning fails
