Fortuner glow plugs last 100,000 km. Failed glow plugs cause rough cold starts, white smoke on startup and occasional misfires in heavy rain.
Fortuner Glow Plugs — Change at 100,000 km
Both Fortuner diesel engines (2GD-FTV and 1GD-FTV) have 4 glow plugs — one per cylinder. Glow plugs pre-heat the combustion chamber for reliable compression ignition. In Malaysia's tropical climate, they are less stressed than in cold countries, but still fail over time. Replace at 80,000–100,000 km or when fault codes P0671–P0674 appear. Symptoms before failure: hard cold start, white smoke on startup, rough idle for the first minute. Cost: RM 200–420 for 4 plugs.
