Toyota Fortuner EGR Valve Carbon Cleaning Guide
Fortuner EGR valve accumulates carbon from slow city traffic. Symptoms: rough idle, hesitation, black smoke. Cleaning every 60,000 km prevents expensive failures.

Fortuner EGR Valve — Carbon Cleaning Every 60,000 km
EGR valve on Fortuner AN160 (both 2GD-FTV and 1GD-FTV) accumulates carbon from exhaust gas recirculation. City driving is the worst scenario — low-speed operation means more EGR use and more soot deposition. Symptoms of dirty EGR: rough idle, low-RPM hesitation, occasional black smoke, DPF loading up faster. Service: inspect and clean EGR valve every 60,000 km (RM 150–300). If the EGR valve is stuck open or closed, replacement is needed (RM 400–800).
