Subaru XV Carbon Buildup Malaysia
The Subaru XV FB20 uses port fuel injection, which means fuel spray naturally washes the intake valves — this greatly reduces carbon buildup compared to direct injection engines. However, throttle body carbon deposits can still accumulate at 60,000–80,000 km and should be cleaned during servicing. Idle quality and throttle response will improve after a throttle body clean.

Subaru XV Carbon Buildup
- XV FB20/FB16 port injection: like Forester, XV uses port injection — intake valves are naturally cleaned by fuel spray; carbon buildup on intake valves is not an XV concern; standard maintenance is sufficient
- XV e-Boxer carbon: FB16 e-Boxer is port injection; the hybrid electric motor adds no carbon risk; standard throttle body cleaning every 60,000 km is sufficient maintenance for XV e-Boxer
- XV intake deposits: even on port injection engines, inlet manifold can get oily deposits from PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) vapour; heavy PCV deposits cause rough idle; PCV hose inspection at 60,000 km
- XV rough idle diagnosis: rough idle on XV is more likely fuel injector fouling, spark plug wear, or air filter restriction rather than carbon buildup; diagnose systematically before expensive interventions
