BMW 3 Series uses DOT 4 brake fluid — CBS tracks brake fluid age and prompts change every 2 years. Malaysia humidity degrades brake fluid faster. Workshop cost RM 150–250. Use BMW brake fluid or equivalent high-boiling-point DOT 4.

- Use DOT 4 Low Viscosity only — not standard DOT 4
- CBS turns yellow first, then red — change at yellow
- Replace every 2 years regardless of mileage

Why Brake Fluid Degrades
Brake fluid is hygroscopic — it absorbs moisture from the air. In Malaysia's humid climate, DOT 4 absorbs moisture faster than in dry countries. As water content rises, the boiling point drops. During heavy braking (descending a hill, sudden stops), fluid can boil and cause complete brake failure. Two-year replacement is non-negotiable.
