BMW 3 Series Alternator Malaysia — F30/G20
BMW 3 Series uses smart alternator with IBS integration. Voltage regulation failure is the most common fault. IBS sensor must be reset via ISTA after replacement. Malaysia workshop cost RM 900–1,800.

- Alternator only charges during deceleration (regenerative)
- IBS sensor on battery negative terminal manages charging
- F30 alternator: RM 700–1,300; G20: RM 800–1,500
- IBS sensor replacement: RM 150–300
- ISTA battery registration required after every alternator change
Voltage Warning Signs
Common symptoms of alternator failure: battery warning light, iDrive showing low charge, headlights dimming under load, radio cutting out. At 80,000–120,000 km, have the alternator output tested via ISTA. A weak alternator that won't fully charge the battery will flatten it overnight — leading owners to blame the battery when the alternator is the root cause.
