Petrol Yaris: standard belt-driven compressor lasting 120,000–160,000 km. Failure: clutch burnout or refrigerant leak from shaft seal. Cost: RM 800–1,500 replacement. Hybrid Yaris: electric scroll compressor — no belt, runs whenever needed even with engine off. The electric compressor lasts longer than a belt-driven unit but is more expensive to replace (RM 2,500–4,500) — it requires POE-compatible refrigerant and specialised handling.
