Toyota Vellfire vs Alphard — Which to Choose in Malaysia?
Vellfire and Alphard are mechanically identical. Vellfire costs RM 10,000–30,000 less for the same platform. Sportier looks, same running costs — is the Vellfire the smarter buy?

Vellfire vs Alphard — A Vellfire Owner's Perspective
The most common question we hear from Vellfire owners at our Bandar Sri Damansara workshop: 'Should I have bought an Alphard instead?' The honest answer is: mechanically, it makes zero difference. Both cars use identical engines (2AR-FE or T24A-FTS), identical transmissions, identical suspension, identical hybrid systems. Your workshop bill will be exactly the same for both models.
Key Differences: Vellfire vs Alphard
- Exterior: Vellfire has a sportier, more aggressive front fascia; Alphard has a more formal, premium look
- Interior: Alphard H30 has executive lounge seats in some grades; Vellfire H30 has captain chairs — both are extremely comfortable
- Price: in Malaysia, used Alphard commands 5–15% premium over equivalent Vellfire — this is purely badge premium, not mechanical
- Resale value: Alphard holds value better in Malaysia — consider this if you plan to sell within 5 years
- Workshop cost: identical — same parts, same labour, same intervals
- Verdict for Vellfire owners: your car is mechanically excellent — maintain it well and it will serve you as long as any Alphard
