Toyota Vellfire Shock Absorbers — H30 Struts vs H40 Air Suspension
H30 Vellfire uses conventional struts (replace by 100,000 km). H40 has air suspension requiring different diagnosis. Costs differ significantly — full comparison for Malaysian owners.
Vellfire Shock Absorber Guide
Vellfire H30 uses conventional hydraulic shock absorbers front and rear. H40 variants with the optional Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) use electronically-controlled shocks — these are more expensive to replace but provide significantly better ride quality. Standard H30 shocks typically last 100,000–120,000 km in Malaysian conditions. Signs of worn shocks: excessive body roll, nose diving under braking, bouncing after hitting a pothole, and visible oil leakage from the shock body.
- Standard shocks (H30, pair, front): RM 600–1,200 (Monroe / KYB / Bilstein options)
- AVS shocks (H40, pair, front): RM 1,500–3,000 genuine; aftermarket alternatives exist
- Labour to replace (pair, one axle): RM 150–250
- Always replace shocks in pairs (both sides of same axle)
