Toyota Vellfire Brake Fluid — Change Interval & Grade
Vellfire brake fluid must be changed every 2 years. Hybrid regenerative braking means friction brakes are used less — but brake fluid still absorbs moisture and degrades on schedule.

Toyota specifies DOT 3 brake fluid for the Vellfire — do not upgrade to DOT 5.1 unless specifically advised as it can cause seal incompatibility in the ABS modulator. Brake fluid is hygroscopic and absorbs moisture from the air over time — this lowers its boiling point. Toyota recommends flushing every 2 years or 40,000 km regardless of brake fluid appearance. On Vellfire Hybrid, the brake-by-wire system has a separate accumulator — low brake fluid can cause unusual pedal feel before the low fluid warning activates.
- Fluid spec: Toyota Brake Fluid DOT 3 (or equivalent), do NOT use DOT 5 (silicone)
