Toyota Vellfire Alternator Failure — Signs & Replacement Cost Malaysia
Vellfire alternator failure drains the 12V battery first, then causes cascading electrical faults. How to spot it early and what replacement costs in Malaysia.
Vellfire Alternator and Charging System
Vellfire H30 Hybrid does not have a conventional alternator — the 12V battery is charged by a DC-DC converter that steps down the high-voltage hybrid battery power. This means if the hybrid battery fails, the 12V battery also won't charge properly. H40 turbocharged non-hybrid variants use a conventional belt-driven alternator. If you have a non-hybrid Vellfire and see a battery warning light or dimming electrical systems, have the alternator tested.
- H30 Hybrid: no alternator — DC-DC converter charges 12V; DC-DC converter replacement RM 1,500–3,000
- H40 non-hybrid alternator replacement: RM 600–1,200
- Serpentine belt (H40): RM 80–150 + labour; inspect every 60,000 km
