- DPF status: OBD scan for DPF codes, check DPF pressure differential sensor reading
- Turbo: listen for whistle or whine, check for blue/grey smoke at startup
- 6AT gearbox: test drive for shudder at 40–60 km/h, delayed engagement, harsh shifts
- Chassis rust: inspect ladder frame rails and cross-members with flashlight
- Service records: verify fuel filter and gearbox fluid have been changed
- Engine oil: check for milky appearance (head gasket leak) or black sludge
