Innova 1GD-FTV uses a timing chain — no scheduled replacement needed. The chain is designed to last the life of the engine with proper oil maintenance. However, if the oil change interval is stretched beyond 15,000 km or low-quality oil is used, the chain tensioner degrades and allows chain slack. Symptoms: rattling from the top of the engine on cold start (first 5 seconds), timing-related OBD codes. Timing chain kit replacement if needed: RM 2,000–4,000 including labour.
