Innova uses a body-on-frame ladder chassis — the frame rails run the full length of the vehicle beneath the body. This is more rust-prone than monocoque construction because the frame has more exposed metal surfaces and water trap points. Malaysia's rain season and road splash accelerate rust. Prevention: underbody coating with rubberised chassis sealant (RM 300–500), applied every 5–7 years. Check frame rails and cross-members annually. Rust on the frame should be treated immediately — structural rust is dangerous and expensive to repair.
