Toyota specifies DOT 3 brake fluid for the Innova. Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air — in Malaysia's humid climate this happens faster than in temperate countries. Old brake fluid has a lower boiling point, increasing the risk of vapour lock during sustained braking on long descents. Change every 2 years regardless of mileage. For owners who regularly drive to Genting or Cameron Highlands, consider upgrading to DOT 4 for the higher wet boiling point. Cost at our workshop: RM 80–120 flush and refill.
