Toyota Camry Used Car Buying Checklist (Malaysia)
12-point checklist before buying a used Camry XV50 or XV70 in Malaysia — accident history, CVT condition, oil leaks, A/C and suspension inspection.

A used Camry is one of the smartest buys in the Malaysian used car market — but only if you buy the right unit. Use this 12-point checklist before committing.
Documentation
- 1. Check JPJ ownership history (MyEG) — confirm no hidden ownership changes
- 2. PUSPAKOM B2 inspection report — request from seller (300-point check)
- 3. Service history booklet or Toyota workshop receipts
Engine & Transmission
- 4. Start cold — listen for timing chain rattle in first 10 seconds
- 5. Check CVT / ATF fluid colour (should be pink/red, not brown)
- 6. Test drive: XV70 CVT should be smooth — any shudder below 40 km/h = fluid degraded
- 7. Check for blue smoke on startup (valve stem seals) or white smoke (head gasket)
Body & Chassis
- 8. Check all 4 door gaps — uneven gaps indicate accident repair
- 9. Inspect underbody for fresh undercoating (hides accident or rust damage)
- 10. Open bonnet — check for overspray on firewall or engine bay seams
A/C, Electrics & Interior
- 11. Run A/C at maximum — vent temperature should reach below 12°C within 3 minutes
- 12. Test all windows, sunroof, reverse camera, cruise control and lane assist (XV70)
Red flags that mean walk away: mismatched paint across panels, no service history, seller rushes you, PUSPAKOM refused, or CVT shudder that won't go away after fluid change.
