Toyota Camry Brake Fluid Change Guide (Malaysia)
Camry uses DOT 3 brake fluid — why it needs changing every 2 years in Malaysia's humidity, symptoms of old fluid and workshop costs.
Toyota Camry (both XV50 and XV70) uses DOT 3 brake fluid. Brake fluid is hygroscopic — it absorbs moisture from the air, which lowers its boiling point and can cause brake fade under heavy use. Malaysia's humidity makes this worse.
Change Interval
- Every 2 years regardless of mileage (moisture absorption is time-based)
- Or if fluid appears dark brown (check reservoir cap)
Cost in Malaysia
- DOT 3 fluid (500ml): RM 15–30
- Full brake flush at workshop: RM 60–90
Upgrade tip: ABS-equipped Camrys (all local variants) can safely use DOT 4 as an upgrade — DOT 4 has a higher dry boiling point (230°C vs 205°C). Just ensure the whole system is flushed clean before switching grades.
