Mercedes-Benz CLA Timing Chain Guide Malaysia — M270/M274/M260
C117 M270 engine has a moderate timing chain concern at high mileage without proper oil changes. M274 and M260 (C118) are more robust. Oil spec compliance is the single best prevention.
Same timing chain situation as A-Class: both M270 and M260 use a chain (no belt), but tensioner wear and chain stretch are real issues at higher mileage. Cold-start rattle in the first 5 seconds is the key warning sign. Correct oil spec and timely oil changes are the best prevention.
