Honda CR-V 1.5T Timing Chain — Service Life Malaysia
Honda CR-V RW/RT 1.5T uses a timing chain. Does it need replacing? Rattle warning signs and long-term ownership guide for Malaysia.

CR-V 1.5T VTEC Turbo uses a timing chain — no belt to replace. Chains are designed to last the engine's lifetime with proper oil maintenance. The CR-V chain is generally reliable in Malaysia; problems are rare before 150,000 km.
Chain care and warning signs
Primary care: fresh 0W-20 oil every 5,000 km. The turbo oil feeds the chain tensioner — stale oil loses viscosity and allows chain slack. Warning signs: rattling noise on cold start (first 5 seconds), check engine light with VTC or VTEC codes. If rattle persists beyond warm-up, have the chain and tensioner inspected. Replacement is a major job: RM1,500–2,500.
