Honda CR-V Cooling Coil — Clean or Replace?
Musty smell or weak airflow in your Honda CR-V? Evaporator cleaning cost and when full replacement is needed in Malaysia.
The CR-V evaporator (cooling coil) is a common source of musty odours and refrigerant leaks. The large cabin means the evaporator runs at high capacity, accumulating more moisture and biofilm.
Evaporator care
Preventive: use cabin filter (genuine Honda), run fan-only for 5 min before shutdown to dry the coil. Curative: evaporator sanitise spray (RM80–130 at our workshop). If you have refrigerant loss without a visible condenser or pipe leak, suspect the evaporator — pressure test required. Evaporator replacement is a major job (RM800–1,400) involving dashboard removal.
