Alternator diagnosis and cost
Test output voltage at idle: should be 13.8–14.4V. Below 13V indicates a failing alternator. Symptoms: battery not holding charge, electronics behaving erratically, AC compressor cycling oddly. Remanufactured alternator: RM450–700. New OEM-spec: RM900–1,300. Always test the battery at the same time — a weak battery accelerates alternator wear.
