BMW 4 Series Battery Replacement Malaysia — AGM
F32/G22 battery in boot — AGM only, IBS registration mandatory via ISTA. Coupe and convertible boots are smaller than 3 Series sedan — tighter access. OEM Varta AGM 90Ah. Malaysia installed RM 600–1,050. Without ISTA registration charging system overcharges and destroys the AGM within weeks.
4 Series Battery
- AGM 70Ah or 80Ah — register via ISTA after replacement
- F33 Convertible: battery in boot — easier access but same registration requirement
- Cost: RM 480–630 (battery + registration)
AGM Battery Registration — Critical Step
Never skip ISTA battery registration after replacing the 4 Series's AGM battery. Without registration, the DME continues charging the new battery at the old battery's degraded profile — this overcharges and destroys a new AGM within 6–12 months. Registration takes 5 minutes via ISTA and resets the charging algorithm. Also note: in Malaysia's stop-start city driving, a 4 Series with a weak battery often strands owners in carparks or toll plazas — battery health check is included in every 4M Car Care service.
