BMW 4 Series ZF 8-Speed ATF Malaysia
All 4 Series petrol use ZF 8HP — BMW ATF 4 or Esso LT 71141. Malaysia 60,000 km change interval recommended. M440i xDrive adds ATC transfer case fluid at same interval. Harsh 2-3 upshift, hunting at cruise, hard cold engagement = ATF degradation. Malaysia drain-and-fill cost RM 500–750.

Why Transmission Fluid Is Not Lifetime
BMW once labelled the ZF 8HP and 7DCT as having lifetime fluid — this claim has since been revised. In Malaysia's heat, ATF and DCT fluid break down faster than in Europe. Dark fluid at 60,000 km indicates oxidation and reduced lubrication. A 4 Series gearbox rebuild costs RM 8,000–18,000; a fluid service costs RM 380–600.
